This is a group project I carried out with Markus Akne Vieider where our task was to produce a candle holder that would fit into the era of the 1960s-70s. I think we managed to capture the theme and feel of the era in a very good way with the round shape and the different levels that the discs are on.
Moodboard & themeboard
To bring out the feeling of the 1960s -70s, we made a mood board and a theme board. We got stuck on a very orange image of a lamp that had several screens. We started from that when we developed our sketches and concepts.

Sketches
Of all the sketches, it was the one we chose to combine with the lamp shades to fit the theme better. We chose a round because it was a very common shape in our themeboard.

Prototype
We made a cardboard model to get a feel for the size and how the final prototype would be made. To make the prototype, we first made a model in Siemens NX where we made the general shape. Then we took the time to Illustrator and made the boards for the different levels, we also experimented a bit with the number of floors. Then we used LTU's laser cutter to quickly and easily cut out the circles and then glue them together at the right distance.

Final prototype
When we were satisfied with the cardboard prototype, we bought a plexiglass that could be cut out, we did that very similar to the previous prototype. When it was cut out, we painted it an orange color to match the 60s-70s theme even more.

The candle holder can be divided to easily change and light the candle. The idea is also that it should be possible to use several types of light, for example higher light. When it's dark, the light should be reflected in the gaps, but the color we chose was a bit too dull so it didn't show as well as we had hoped. Overall, I think it was a very fun course where you got to test many fun prototyping methods, eg laser cutting.
